Works on cultural heritage and historic buildings require a careful approach, sound knowledge of the existing condition, coordination with conservation requirements and the selection of technical solutions that respect the character of the building. In such interventions, design and supervision include not only technical correctness, but also the preservation of valuable spatial, structural and architectural features.
During the preparation of design documentation, the existing structure, materials, damage, previous interventions, available documentation and requirements of the competent authorities are analysed. Design solutions are coordinated with conservation requirements, the actual condition of the building and requirements for safety, serviceability and durability.

APPROACH TO WORK ON CULTURAL HERITAGE
Review of the Existing Condition
Before defining a technical solution, it is necessary to understand the existing condition of the building. The review determines the structural system, materials used, visible damage, previous interventions and limitations that may affect the design or execution of works.
Design and Development of Technical Solutions
Design solutions are prepared in accordance with the purpose of the intervention, the condition of the building, the client’s requirements, conservation requirements and applicable technical regulations. Particular attention is given to coordinating new interventions with the existing building.
Monitoring Execution and Coordination with the Design
During works on historic buildings, parts of the structure, layers, materials or damage are often discovered that were not fully visible during design. It is therefore important to monitor execution, compare the actual condition with the design documentation and, where necessary, coordinate technical solutions with site conditions, professional rules and conservation requirements.
